Paris to Stuttgart

Happy to You, Claire!!!

Leaving Chez Dominique is like leaving a cocoon. We have been treated to a week of great food, lovely wine (also lemon drops) and no responsibilities.
It’s a rainy day in France and Germany too. But nothing can dampen the spirits of the man-child on the eve of acquisition.

In Stuttgart we taxi to our hotel (courtesy of Porsche, both taxi and hotel), drop our bags and walk around the corner to the light rail. Our destination is 4 stops away on the S6 train: The Porsche Museum. Two tickets are waiting at will-call. The woman who hands them over seems delighted that we will pick up a car tomorrow. She graciously draws out all the details as if she’s never heard anything so exciting ever.

I am accompanying someone to his first trip to Disneyland. He takes off through the gate in a whirl of anticipation. I trust I will see him again….eventually. The building itself is unusual. The ceiling is mirrored and reflective, the walls are stark white. It is multi-leveled and asymmetrical. The space is enormous. It’s filled with cars.

The audio guide relates all details of production and design. In sum, meticulous. The display cars are shined to a gleam, from old to new from road worthy to race worthy, they line the edges, the over-hangs, and one has managed to be parked outside on the roof.

This is the model of our (?) first Porsche @1974

After all this spectating we have to take a break. We are in Germany after all.

  1. Mom, you should have a second career as a travel writer. The museum looks awesome. That studly guy with you looks pretty happy. Glad you are partaking in the local beverages. Can't wait for tomorrow's post.

  3. Chez Dominique was empty yesterday without you! Given the rainy day we made a fire and it would have been the perfect chance to hang on the couch and talk politics and/or tree trimming. Driving home from airport there was an accident on the road -- it's so slippery -- so BE CAREFUL on the Autobahn!
Mom -- I was thinking the same thing as KB -- you should be a WRITER!!
Sean is very excited to see what the car looks like and if its as cool as the model we saw in St Ger.
Buelo and Michou send their bisous -- Buelo said its too bad that I (me) have to work late , while others are off in Germany picking up their Porshe. :)

Can't wait to hear about the pick up from ProduKtion! Long live DAS AUTO!!

PS -- there were no lemon drops at Chez Dominique tonight.

  4. Looks so exciting "boys with toys" as Mary reminds me when I play with my computer stuff. You didn't mention how long the car was and its weight at birth. The beautiful Porsche plant does look like an adult Disneyland. Makes me wonder just who did win the war. Have fun on the road trip
